1914- First Mass offered at old fire hall at Dodge and 51• Avenue by Rev. Michael Boland
1915 - First Mass in basement of first church at 48th Pitt Street -45 families
1920 – Sanctuary moved to main floor of church
1923 - Interior of first church completed and school opened on 2nd floor 72 pupils enrolled, 4 classrooms for grades 1- 8
1923- Dominican Sisters from Springfield, Illinois assigned to staff our school
1955- Sisters' home at 4802 Pitt Street sold and moved to Cooke Street to clear ground for new church Sisters move to house at 4831 Pitt Street
1955 - Groundbreaking for new church and rectory
1955 - Used A Bit Shop opened in downtown Duluth location. Still serving the downtown area in 2013.
1956- New church building completed, dedicated by Bishop Thomas A. Welch, 500 families
1956 - School expanded to two floors, eight classrooms, 250 students grades 1- 8 Lay teachers join staff in addition to Dominican Sisters
1956- Dominican Sisters live in two parish houses on Pitt Street with a covered walkway between houses 1960 - Three bells consecrated & installed in bell tower. Bells christened Salvator, Mary & Michael
1970 - Initiated Vatican II changes - removed communion rail, altar turned to face people
1972 - Raggedy Ann Preschool opened in church hall to fund kindergarten at St. Michael's School. Kindergarten located in house at 4826 Pitt Street
1978 - St. Michael's welcomed members from closed St. Joseph's Church in Lakewood 1980 - Dominican Sisters reassigned to Illinois. All lay staff at St. Michael's School
1984-Renovation of church began-removed high altar, extended sanctuary floor, installed Italian quarry tile in sanctuary and center aisle, built reconciliation room, moved statues to former confessional sites, moved Baptistry to rear of church, installed sanctuary light from College of St. Scholastica, installed newly designed stained glass windows in church proper, tuck pointed all brick on church and rectory buildings. Renovation completed in 1988. All renovations paid for by gifts to the parish.
1985 - Gabriel's Second Hand Bookstore opened in former kindergarten building on Pitt Street 1994 -The former Lakeside School at 4600 Pitt Street purchased with donations from parishioners, renamed St. Michael's Lakeside School. 180 students in Montessori preschool and grades K - 6
1995 - Lakeside Professional Building (our former school) opened with all office space rented 1995 - Gabriel's Second Hand Bookstore moved to basement of Lakeside Professional Building.
Omate shelving salvaged from the former Duluth Carnegie Public Library installed at Gabriel's
2000 -Windows replaced in rectory and church office buildings
2006 - 760 families in parish, 127 students at St. Michael's Lakeside School, preschool thru grade 6
